Monday Morning Quarterback

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

just a great day yesterday!

  1. it was crazy how warm and friendly it felt…

  2. i love graduation sunday!  all the college grads were particularly impressive…

  3. glad i don’t have to be the parent of a high school grad again.  it’s good the whole proud-sad thing is over.

  4. there was a lot to stuff into our second service.  even though i rushed through the introductions of grads, i really meant every word i said…especially that each one of them had made a mark on us as a church family…and that, hopefully, we had made a mark on them.

  5. i really don’t like being referred to as a religious person.  part of that is because i don’t like the way our world defines it.  the other reason is that i don’t like how james defines it.  one way, i’m a pretty good example.  the other, i fall way short.  go figure.

  6. speaking of comparisons and expectations, we need to really guard against the self-deception that comes when we compare ourselves to others.  by most standards, we are very religious people.  don’t be duped.

  7. i really liked the quotes that began the sermon.  very disturbing, but real.

  8. the song that played behind those quotes was by a band called telecast. if you want some good acoustic music to help you connect with god, you ought to check them out.

  9. i thought the band really rocked.  the singing was powerful.  great choice of songs.

  10. singing o for a 1000 tongues was a perfect ending for the sermon.

  11. i love some of the new ways we do old hymns.  this is my favorite.

  12. yesterday would have been a great donut day. *sighs*

  13. i’m getting pretty pumped for bon voyage! i’m starting to see some enthusiasm from our people.  i think it’s going to be a great week.

  14. it was stinking hot in the auditorium after the service.  come to think of it, i felt like i needed a towel during the whole time i was preaching in the second service.

  15. i’m content calling what we do on sundays a worship service. i know it’s redundant.  i know it’s old school.  i know it’s not as hip as calling them  gatherings like all the new non-churchy churches are calling them these days.

  16. for the record, being hip is probably not all it’s cracked up to be.

  17. we had a good offering day.  i’ve got some thoughts about offerings that i’m going to pass on later this week.

  18. took one for the team and went to lunch at pei wei.  not sure why people like it so much.  pretty much the same food you get at panda, but more expensive.  and you gotta drive farther.  but you do get all the fortune cookies you can eat.  maybe you have something, aanna…

  19. we finished chapter one of james.  hey… it only took nine weeks.  the rest of the study will go a lot quicker…for those who are counting.

  20. we are officially starting our summer months this coming sunday.  be faithful.
