Monday Morning Quarterback

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

i’ve been looking forward to writing this post all summer…

  1. yesterday was a great day!

  2. finally back to a full house…over 50 in the first service alone.

  3. i had a come to jesus moment this past week about my preaching.  for whatever the reasons, i had not been preparing well enough this summer.  the result was that i had been preaching too long and the band was having to cut a song (sometimes two) to keep our services from running over.

  4. this may not seem like a huge deal to you, but it finally became one for me.  yesterday, time management re-appeared!  my sermon was 25 minutes.

  5. i definitely surprised the band in the first service.  they almost didn’t make it back in on time.

  6. i loved preaching this text.  the message of being patient during difficult times has grown to be something really close to my heart.

  7. james’ answer to facing difficulty?  resist fighting back…be patient…guard your heart…don’t complain…don’t make rash promises…and pray.  can you do this?

  8. i gotta be honest.  i haven’t really connected with the new song, “bring the rain”.  until yesterday.  i’m glad the band has persevered and continued to lead this song.  great message.  great flow.  perfect for yesterday.

  9. did it seem like baby day to you, or was it just me?

  10. where have the front row people people gone?  it was nearly vacant in both services.  are you afraid of being spit on?

  11. chocolate chip cookie illustration in the first hour was really cheesy.  still can’t believe i used it.  if you weren’t there, be glad you missed it.

  12. i wonder how many people really tivo sports events to watch later?  to me, it’s the best way to watch.  if you weren’t in the second service, sorry.  you don’t get why i just said this.

  13. singing was great.  the sound of our church family singing well is one of my favorite experiences.

  14. the offering was awesome!

  15. church service.  worship service.  church.  worship gathering (the new, hip way of saying it).  family reunion.  i think family reunion says it best.  that’s what sunday mornings are all about.

  16. i’m ready for fall to get here.  it was way hot in the building yesterday…especially the lobby.

  17. speaking of the lobby, yesterday would have been a great donut day.  don’t be surprised if you see them appear soon.

  18. i especially enjoyed chipotle for lunch.  don’t know why it was so good, but the chicken tacos were amazing.

  19. sunday afternoon golf tournament was great fun.  all of us had a blast.  you better sign up when the tournament rolls around again in october.

can’t wait till next sunday!
