i’m going to try something new to stretch my thinking and writing…and also to see if you’ve got some latent opinions in need of expression.
on fridays, i’m going to give my “top five” in different areas. i’ll give some rationale behind my choices and give you the opportunity to agree or disagree and roll your ideas out there for everyone to see. don’t be a chicken.
here are my top five shows on television right now:
5. “the unit” – if you’ve never seen it, it’s about a military special ops unit that does some of the military’s most dangerous and dirtiest jobs. the team has great characters and the story lines explore their family lives, as well. and david palmer plays jonas, the team leader. how can you go wrong with david palmer as your leader?
4. “friday night lights” – great look into the lives of teenagers coming of age in a west texas town, driven by the power of football and the pursuit of a state championship. it is a great look into the psyche and relationships of young people. it’s a little raw at times, but a great slice of teenage life. lots of opportunities for family dialogue between parents and teenagers!
3. “monk” – having spent years of my life as a counselor, helping people through the difficult twists and turns of their lives, i have encountered some people who are in various stages of ocd (obsessive-compulsive disorder). maybe that’s why i love this show so much. monk has characteristics of people i have known. he’s hilarious!
2. “sportscenter” – nothing much to say except “brilliance” for the sports fanatic.
1. “24” – epic. addictive. if you’ve resisted the urge to watch…if you’re scared to take the plunge…if you got some pithy, lame superiority complex that keeps you from jumping on the bauer bandwagon…give it up. come and join us at the farra estate this sunday night at 7:00 for the premier of season seven. you’ll wonder why it took you so long to get on.
ok, there’s my top five. how about you? and don’t give any moral platitudes about the empty black hole of the mindless tube. we already know you’re better than us.
