What is God teaching me? Part 2

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

if you didn’t see it yesterday,  my friend brandon had a good question in response to my post.  you might want to check out the post from yesterday to refresh.   anyway,  here’s what brandon wrote:

If you are down and out it does seem like God is the obvious choice to blame.  If you are believer or not. I have asked God “Why me” once knowing my actions preceding my downfall caused my pain. I have also been fired once and did not realize the blessing of it until many years later.Mike, IYO, As you state at the top when bad things happen, that is life. So, if good things happen is that life also? like getting a job, getting a bonus, getting married, having a kid.Should we get worked-up and shout from the rooftops “God has blessed me” when things go our way or does that just set us up to get knocked down?

i think what you are saying squares with how i struggle with things.  we love to say “god has blessed me” when good things happen…but usually fail to remember to praise and thank him for EVERYTHING that comes our way.

for me, i work pretty hard to see the good and the bad through the same lens…it’s all part of life.   sometimes the good happens because of hard work…or people pulling together…or economic upturn…or a shift in the power base…or by supernatural intervention.  the bottom line is that i will never really know for sure.   so i thank god.

the same is true with the bad.  sometimes it’s because of the consequences of sin…or genetics…or natural forces…or the the presence of evil…or being at the wrong place at the wrong time…or associating with bad company…or economic downturn…or a shift in the power base…or supernatural intervention.  the bottom line,  just like with the good,  is that i will never really know for sure.  so i thank god.

theologically…for me, it’s that simple.

Be joyful always;  pray continually;  give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.   1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
