The week in review

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

wow…what a week.

  1. i really thought my week was going to be all about our spring break trip to mexico.

  2. boy, was i surprised.

  3. we left mexico on sunday evening,  stopped at mcdonald’s for dinner,  and then drove to beautiful, downtown van horn texas to spend the night in one of our country’s finest…the econolodge!

  4. a great drive home on monday…nothing like the beauty of west texas to make a guy appreciate dfw.

  5. i threw down a challenge to the youth group.   i told logan that i didn’t think they could get everything cleaned up on tuesday afternoon…tents, canopies, tools, ice chests, kitchen stuff, all of it…but they did!   it was awesome.

  6. as a matter of fact,  the kids were amazing on the trip.   i wish they could have experienced the whole week…especially the new ones.

  7. they will someday.

  8. i’ve been really emotional all week about leaving mexico early.   in all my years (30+) of going to mexico to serve,  this was the first time i’ve ever walked away.

  9. it was strange and sad to realize that we were leaving to protect our own safety…and leave behind people who have to continue to live in a culture of violence.

  10. it’s weird to say this…and you had to have been there to understand…but we were always safe and completely comfortable traveling and working.

  11. it’s always good to be home.

  12. first time in…pretty much forever,  that i have had this many days at home during spring break.

  13. got to spend time with my boys and their wives.

  14. better yet,  i got to spend time with holden.

  15. i may be a little narrow-minded on this,  but i have the best grandson ever.   ever.

  16. preparation for my sermon this week was totally influenced by my experience in mexico.   couldn’t get it off my heart.

  17. seeing scripture through the lens of experience is not always the ideal way to interpret it,  but sometimes you just have to.

  18. normally,  you need to interpret experience in light of scripture.   make sense?

  19. snow?  again?   unbelievable.

  20. i was super excited to be back at north point this morning.

  21. i love being part of a church family that i want to be around.

  22. wasn’t sure what attendance was going to be like…between the cold and snow and the end of spring break,  i thought we might be a little down.   turned out to be a pretty good day!

  23. the band totally rocked today.

  24. their take on wonderful grace of jesus was awesome.

  25. erin is really coming into her own as a singer.   i can remember when she first started back in 1999, when i was leading the youth band.   we’ve all come a long way…

  26. what a great spirit in the building today!

  27. it was so cool to watch people hanging around and talking after the services.   it’s the way families are supposed to act.

  28. there must have been over 40 north pointers taking in lunch at fuzzy’s tacos today.

  29. now that spring break is over,  it’s time to get busy on easter.   hope it’s the best one ever!

go and serve well this week.
