i don’t know what you would call a normal week for yourself, but normal for me is simply abnormal.
i never have a week that resembles the previous one. every week is entirely different and unpredictable.
oh, there are things that i do consistently every week…meet with people…study…prepare a sermon…work on projects and programs…write…but each one of those things has a uniqueness of its own.
i joked with wanda the other day that i wished i could go be a plumber. that’s not really true, but there is something about the predictability of working with pipes or wire or wood or machinery or computers or lawns that seems appealing sometimes.
i think that joke came on the heels of about 60 hours of over-using and abusing my vocal cords! hey, it’s no secret i like to talk, but every now and then, it can go a little overboard!
this past week was a simpler week for me.
i had fewer conversations.
the time i spent with people was good, tho.
i have been called abbot and vicar a lot.
i’ll stick with padre.
i’m meeting with a bunch of couples to talk about marriage…pre-trib and post-trib.
there’s really nothing i enjoy talking about more than marriage.
can’t believe this is the last season of 24. it’s been a monday night ritual for a lot of years.
i’m in the midst of three different electronic-financial crisis (plural).
we are thinking hard about dropping directv. way too expensive. might change providers. might dump it all together. i’m looking into the possibility of just using the internet to watch.
you’ve already been brought into my mac vs. pc dilemma.
my cell phone is broken. the keypad is locked and won’t work. i have about a week to go before my two-year contract is up and i can get a new phone. verizon has been very good for us, so i’m looking into a new phone and a new plan with them. this is a big decision since we don’t use a land line at home anymore.
an antenna, a typewriter and a rotary dial are looking really good today…
the price of convenience and choice is way too steep, but its the world we live in.
i’m super excited about “north point unplugged”! can’t wait to break it out.
i got totally humbled at bowling this past tuesday. just when i thought i had it figured out, the bowling demon came back. looking forward to this coming tuesday to redeem myself.
had dinner with holden and his parents on wednesday night. man, he’s a good looking kid. wish you all got to see what i get to see!
how is it that grandparents can be so blinded by the greatness of their grandkids? i love it.
i love baseball season…even tho my boys no longer play. there’s just something about the game that is deep in my soul. i know most people don’t get it, but it’s spiritual to me…
worked on the north point volleyball court on saturday morning. lots of weeds, but i think we’re going to be able to resurrect it.
hope the north point fun day and barbeque don’t get rained out this weekend.
i’m still trying to get my big lawn mower running. took the carburator completely apart (like i really know what i’m doing…), cleaned it, blew out fuel lines, recharged the battery, cleaned wires and connectors. still no luck. i’m starting to think this is going to cost me…
this week’s sermon prep was more than humbling to me. ephesians 4:11-16 is part of the mt. rushmore of bible passages.
the greatest preachers in history have taught this passage. the greatest theologians in history have studied and interpreted this passage. the greatest authors in history have given the deepest and most profound insights into this passage.
what was i going to add?
seeing it as paul’s pre-practice motivational speech really made sense to me. maybe it didn’t to anyone else…but it did to me!
it may have been me, but sunday lacked our usual north point energy. kind of weird…
but sunday is not about energy or hype. it’s about giving honor to god. and that was done.
song choice was perfect to go along with the sermon.
honestly, we didn’t need another sermon after listening to the georgia tech chaplain give his pre-game pep talk. was that guy awesome, or what?
i didn’t go, but i hear there was a great wedding shower in the afternoon. congrats to alan and jen.
why don’t men give each other wedding showers?
we went out to dinner last night with our friends david and gigi. have you ever been to “sweet tomatoes”? great salad bar. we stayed so long, we just about closed it down!
good sunday. good week. live worthy of your calling this coming week. practice hard. get yourself ready for the game. you never know when things are going to change.
