i have seriously waited for this past week to arrive most of the fall…it was a great ending to 2009…and an even greater beginning to 2010.
the week started with a staff dinner, hosted by beth and larry. good food…good conversation…great memories. are you regularly inviting people to share meals with you? what a great way to build friendship!
spent some time really thinking through some areas of my life where i need to grow deeper and more solid in my discipleship. it was good to have the time.
i know i’ve talked a lot about the disconnect i feel during the christmas season. looking back, i don’t want you to ever get the idea that i don’t thoroughly enjoy the holidays.
any negative feelings i have about the season come from the loss of momentum i think we experience as a church family. routines are upset. schedules are turned upside down. family demands. work demands. travel demands.
the bottom line? i just miss seeing people. that’s it.
i was unusually tired this whole week. i think it was due to an upset routine…staying up too late…and fighting a cold for the past two weeks.
i think another frustration that i feel this year is having to wait until january 17 to start my new sermon series. can’t wait to get started. i almost feel like i’m treading water until we get there.
got all the north point decorations down and put up. got the boat load of farra christmas decorations down and packed. way to go, wanda! now, if we can just get them up in the attic before easter…
got the headlight fixed on my jeep. it’s looked kind of like a cartoon character with his eye hanging out of the socket after a fight…
one of the upsides of the holiday break is that a lot of people have flexibility to get together and talk. i’ve had some awesome meetings with people…great conversations.
wanda has had the past two weeks off from work. it’s been really fun spending the time with her. i’m not looking forward to her going back to work this week…
picked up our trophy for our float finishing third place in the holiday at the hall christmas parade. like a mighty army, moves the church of god…
anybody remember what song that line comes from? it was a favorite song of my childhood.
i’ve got some big, crazy dreams about the future of north point! i may begin to share some of them with you in the months to come.
i finished writing my “fifteen for 2010”. i can’t believe i really made all of that public…
i was in information overload over all the stuff with mike leach and texas tech this past week. i’ll be giving my thoughts later in the week.
it’s always a good week when i get to see my grandson. it is a stellar week when i get to see him three times. this was a stellar week.
had lunch at the new carl’s jr. in denton this week. if you’ve never had a carl’s famous star or western cheeseburger, you’re missing out. by the way, carl’s jr. is a socal establishment. wanda and i used to go there when we were teenagers!
we had about 25 of us who bowled together on new year’s eve. it was a great time! can’t believe how many college and young adults i know just stayed home, watched dick clark’s new year’s rockin’ eve on the tube, and fell asleep on the couch…
got up at 8:00am on new year’s day to help my son repair their backyard fence. yeah, 8:00am…
we had our yearly farra new year’s day tradition: fish tacos. learned a lesson, though. tilapia does not make a good fish taco…
pardon my french, but the pac-10 sucks. you gotta be kidding me…oregon loses to ohio state? arizona gets spanked by nebraska? byu pounds oregon state? utah smashes cal? oklahoma takes it to stanford? at least the great usc slipped by boston college in the ever-popular emerald nut bowl on a baseball field in san francisco and ucla squeaked by temple in temple’s first bowl appearance in thirty years. yeah, my french is pretty right on.
glad i’m a mountain west fan. go horned frogs. the real best college football team in texas…
i’m a tim tebow fan. what a way to go out…
this was a great sunday!
first service was a little low, but the second service was packed. lots of energy!
it was great to see some people i haven’t seen in a month.
had an offering over $7000!
we are getting closer and closer to reaching our goal of $15,000 for advent conspiracy. we may still make it!
the band was awesome today…even without the keyboard. if i were the keyboard player, i would seriously reconsider ever being gone on a sunday.
lots of football testosterone flowing in the building today. good to see the cowboy fans coming to life again! so glad to see the ‘boys securing another year of jerruh, wade and garrett, also…
great lunch at rosa’s mexican food. we had a bunch of people there. lunch on sundays with friends is the best time of week!
in the words of king david to his son, solomon: be strong…show yourself a man…observe what the lord requires…walk in his ways…keep the lord’s commands (1 kings 2:1-3)
do that this week and god will surely bless your steps!
