interesting ebb and flow to my week…
wanda had the day off on monday, so we acted totally out of character and went to see a movie.
the main reason we hardly ever go to movies is because wanda can’t stay awake. never could. put her in a comfortable chair and dim the lights and she’s history.
she did well on monday. good movie helped. blindside is definitely a movie worth seeing.
i’m not a real artsy person. my taste in movies is pretty simple. i want to laugh. i want to be inspired. the good guys have to win. i don’t get into dark stuff. and i don’t want to walk out feeling bad.
the biggest loser is going to be awesome.
i’ve gone nearly two weeks and i haven’t gone off my eating plan at all.
doing a lot more shopping, tho.
found a great new way to make brown rice. you bake it!
it’s not the greatest time of the year for fruits and vegetables, but the stuff i’m buying is not too bad.
after the chargers lost, i have even amazed myself how quickly i have moved on to baseball season. the smell of spring training is in the air.
i’m starting to get really excited about the men’s mexico trip. i don’t want to have to build a house with eight men in two days. we definitely need to get some new men to join us.
i had an hour phone call with my old friend gayla this week. she is the founder of amor ministries…the organization we go to mexico with. it was great listening to someone my age talk with such absolute excitement about what she is going to be doing for the next twenty years of her life to make a difference in the kingdom.
my favorite night of the week is tuesday. i love bowling. i love being with friends. if you are not bowling with us, you need to be…unless you don’t live here. in that case, find a bowling alley near you…embrace your age and the demise of your athletic ability…and start rolling the rock.
of all the meetings i had this past week, one really stands out. i got to meet with a couple of guys (who will remain nameless for the time being) and talk about discipleship. we never used the word, but it was certainly the topic. we were talking about one of the guys being baptized and how both of them are going to begin studying the word of god together to come to a better understanding of what god wants them to do. it was awesome to see light bulbs go on!
new plans for our thursday night study. we decided to make it more of a “family” time for the people who show up. we need to spend more time sharing life together and there is no better way to do that than eating together!
some of them are going to be joining me every week to help prepare the meal…food prep ministry.
i love sermon preparations these days. so glad to be studying through the letter to the ephesians. after all these years, it’s amazing to be learning so many new things.
decided to start digging some stumps out of planter boxes in the front of my house. bad idea. i tweaked my back again on friday afternoon. glad i’m beginning to manage my eating and exercise with some passion these days. i think it will help with the back issues.
didn’t do much but study on saturday…study and rest my back.
decided to use one of my old muscle relaxers from my last prescription before i showed up to north point to preach. not sure that was a great decision. i was really out of it all morning.
filling in for scott on guitar in the band today was fun…and painful. it was the first time i’ve played a guitar in a couple of years. the fingertips of my left hand are really sore!
can’t believe we broke out a song from 1997 today. i love your grace was one of the first signature songs of our youth band back in the day.
the combination of medication, back pain, and standing pretty much non-stop from 8:00 until 12:45 left my knees screaming and my leg muscles like jello.
for the record, the first service sermon was way better than the 11:15 version.
we had a pretty good crowd in the first hour…a great crowd in the second. we had a number of new people today. hope they come back.
being friendly and welcoming to new people is still a difficult thing for most folks to do. connecting with friends is much easier. i get it. but it still needs to change.
lunch at jason’s deli with friends. great time. my favorite salad bar.
i was pulling for brett favre to go to the superbowl. they would have made a movie about it someday. too bad. glad new orleans gets to go…even though i don’t think they were the best team on the field today. i’ll be cheering for them at our yearly superbowl bowl party.
great start to a new week. live like a redeemed person.
