The week in review

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

my week started out as a loser…ended up a winner!

  1. this was an absolutely miserable week with my back.

  2. since i was 17 or 18 years old, once or twice a year i tweak my back…it’s really painful and kind of puts me out of commission for a couple of days and then i’m back to normal after the fourth day.  kind of clockwork.  for over 35 years.

  3. until i hurt it about three months ago (10-day recuperation period) and then eight days ago (8-day recuperation…and counting).

  4. maybe a bigger problem.   maybe i’m reaping the long-term blessings of abusing my body in youth ministry for almost four decades.   maybe i’m just getting old.   it’s time to visit the back doctor…

  5. i tried to bowl on tuesday night.   that was ridiculous.   it gave waddling a whole new meaning.

  6. had some awesome conversations with people this week…reconnected with an old friend…got to hear how god has been working in his life.   very cool.

  7. what would that conversation be like with you?

  8. do you like talking about deeper things?

  9. do you like to get personal?

  10. i got to have some really special time with both of my boys, their wives and the great holden during the week.   it doesn’t happen like it used to, but it is still some of the best time i ever get to spend.

  11. thursday night bible study at my house has turned into more of a family time for the people who come.   we eat dinner together, catch up on each other’s week,  spend some time chewing on the past sunday’s sermon and then hang out together until 10, or so.   some of the best three hours of my week.

  12. what’s keeping you from opening your home, inviting some friends, eating dinner, talking about the sermon (or some other topic) and enjoying each other’s company one night each week?   it will change your life…and maybe someone else’s at the same time.

  13. crazy weather this week.  i love texas!

  14. i have a 5-gallon shop vac.   i filled it 17 times on thursday night and friday getting rid of the water that had flowed into my garage and pantry.   yeah…that’s 85 gallons of water.   what a mess.   i really need to get my flooding problem fixed one of these years.

  15. had a couple of great phone calls with people about our mexico trip.   my friend steve is a former intern of mine when i work for amor ministries and the former director of amor operations in el paso.   he’s an associate pastor in a church plant in el paso these days.

  16. when i asked him his take on the violence in juarez, he said he really didn’t know anything.  it’s never really publicized in el paso…only in the national media.  go figure.

  17. he consistently goes back and forth across the border to help and serve people there with his church.  no fear.   huge faith.   loving heart.   very inspiring.

  18. my other call was from a local youth pastor at a large church that goes to juarez every year during spring break the same as we do.   she told me how a group of parents took a vote not to let their youth group go to mexico this spring.   she’s broken-hearted.   i really felt for her.

  19. make sure you read the north point community news this week.  i’m going to write more about it there.   i’ll add our commitment to mexico and missions as two more reasons why i love north point!

  20. great sunday!

  21. i’m definitely not a guitar player anymore.  the tips of my fingers were still hurting from last week…i can barely type on my keyboard right now.   what a wuss…

  22. it’s always extra special when we have a baptism.   congrats to cadence and the whole hindman clan.

  23. we heated the baptistery for 48 hours and it was still just lukewarm.   so glad angela got to have the experience…

  24. i’ve decided josh and i are going to go into the tree cutting business.   i’m going to be his agent.   he came to the first service and was mysteriously there for the second service, as well.   i’m pretty sure he left in the middle to get some kind of business cards made up…

  25. i’m done teaching about predestination for a while.   it wears me out.

  26. bunch o’ new folks today.

  27. lunch at rudy’s barbeque is always good.   always.

  28. huge thanks to all the people that helped on our mexico work day sunday afternoon.   we got a ton done.   keep your ears open for the next one.

make sure you’re on the right train this week…living for the praise of his glory.
