The week in review

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

crazy week.

  1. i’m getting just a little tired of the weather being the biggest deal in our weeks.

  2. it was pretty cool, though, to be part of the single snowiest day in the history of texas…nearly 10 inches in the metroplex!  amazing.

  3. the ground around my house is still so saturated from last weeks wicked downpour its ridiculous.   the melting of the snow just keeps flooding my garage.   for three days my shop vac has been working overtime.   definitely my most prized handyman possession.

  4. it was awesome, but weird to have wanda around for the two snow days.  totally disrupted my study routine.

  5. it was not her fault.   i’m really starting to see how much of a creature of habit in my study i have become.

  6. i’m starting to get a sick feeling in my stomach.   the power jack on my laptop is starting to get loose.   that’s a costly and annoying pain the butt.

  7. my goal of becoming a better bowler this year took a huge stride this past week.   my bowling average for the three games tuesday night was 170.   not a bad night.

  8. here’s a sign of growing older:   i found myself watching the professional bowlers tour on espn this afternoon.   mmmm….

  9. even if you don’t bowl, you need to come out and spend a tuesday evening with the north point crowd.   its funny.   its entertaining.   there’s good food in the cafe.   there’s great conversation.   come and join us.

  10. we got to spend a lot of time with our family this week.   lots of good holden time.

  11. i was pretty excited to preach from ephesians 2: 1-5 this week.   i have been really convicted in my study time.

  12. i am convinced that i missed the depth and meaning of this passage as i grew up in the church.

  13. biological believers (children who grow up in the church) have super difficulty connecting with the before and after nature of the christian journey.

  14. we are taught from the moment we can comprehend to be good people. our good behavior is rewarded and praised by parents, teachers, coaches, friends…and even our sunday school teachers.

  15. so to be told by the apostle paul that before we surrender our lives to christ, we were dead in our transgressions and sins and gratifiers of the cravings of our sinful nature and objects of wrath…well…it just doesn’t compute.

  16. but it has to if we are ever going to be overwhelmed by the greatness of the power of the cross.   it just has to.

  17. it was a good passage to preach.   very humbling.

  18. i was a little thrown off my game today, though.   we couldn’t find the remote for the north point dvd player, so i couldn’t use the clip from remember the titans. it would have been really good.

  19. i was concentrating so hard on remembering the details of the film clip (so i could tell about it),  i totally forgot to do the scripture reading in both services!

  20. had a small “hurdle” to get over in the second hour…

  21. i love being part of a group of imperfect people.   sure takes the pressure off.

  22. great music.   as always!

  23. i have never really understood why some people don’t like to sing during communion.   i would do it that way every week,  if i were to do it the way i like it.

  24. come to think of it,  i would probably have us get up and talk during communion, also.   communion… community… what do you think?

  25. we are officially less than four weeks from being in mexico again.  can’t wait!

  26. lunch with wanda at outback.   it was a good valentine’s day.

have a great week.   live like people who are no longer dead!

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,  made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved.   Ephesians 2: 4-5
