i don’t know about you, but i’m really looking forward to the superbowl this year.
great teams. great quarterbacks. tremendous story lines…the comeback of the city of new orleans and the love affair it has with their football team…the manning family growing up in new orleans. local texas connections. it’s gonna be great.
there’s another item that has been brewing over the past few weeks that has some people standing up and cheering…and others rolling their eyes and reaching for their water balloons. the big deal? the decision by focus on the family to sponsor a television ad during the game.
there’s a lot of conflict over this one…and most of it circles around the estimated price tag of $2.5 million dollars…on the heels of focus on the family eliminating over 275 jobs in recent years.
the response by focus on the family is that none of the money is coming out of their budget, but rather from ‘generous donors who specifically gave for this project’.
for the record, the ad features university of florida quarterback tim tebow and his mother and has an anti-abortion/pro-life message…
the national media is already having a field day. youtube has been blitzed. political groups are polorized over it. mmm…
i’d be interested to hear what you think. what about the amount of money? what about all the jobs that were cut? what is this decision saying to former employees and their families? how do you think the ad will be received by the audience that normally views the superbowl?
my opinion? this one is complicated. i’ll wait to hear from some of you before i offer my superbowl analysis and play-by-play…
