this was a good sunday morning.
hard. crazy chaotic. emotional. therapeutic. honorable.
honestly, preparing to speak about kindness this morning seemed so elementary. so many other deep things to consider. so many serious theological stones to turn over. so many matters of much greater magnitude and consequence.
kindness? are you kidding me? kindness?
kindness is a big deal. it’s a huge deal. the riches of god’s grace were expressed in his kindness in what jesus did on the cross. and it was that kindness…not wanting to go to heaven or have god heal a relative or give us a new job…that led us to repentance, that led us to the change we have experienced since we met jesus.
and it’s that same kind of kindness that can point people to jesus today.
here are a few quotes that inspired me in my study this past week:
Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. – Mark TwainShall we make a new rule from tonight: always to try to be a little kinder than is necessary? – J.M. BarneIn this world, you must be a bit too kind in order to be kind enough. – Author UnknownIn scattering the seed…your kind deeds…you are giving away in one form or another, part of your personality, and taking into yourself part of another. He who has received them from you will hand them on to another. And how can you tell what part you may have in the future determination of the destinies of humanity? – Fyodor DostoevskyTrue kindness presupposes the faculty of imagining as one’s own the sufferings and joy of others. Without imagination, there can be weakness, theoretical or practical philanthropy, but not true kindness. – Andre Gide
walk in kindness this week.
