* sighs…*

helped a homeless guy this morning.  his name was art.  you could pray for him.  because of what i do, most days i get the privilege of coming face-to-face with broken, hopeless people more than most.  it’s never easy.  it seldom comes remotely close to really getting to the source of their brokenness or chaos.  it didn’t for art this morning.  but it’s still a privilege.

i’m not going to attempt to write about the complexity of poverty, homelessness, class distinction, and despair this morning.  the talk ends up nowhere.  all i feel like saying is that it sucks.

i’m getting ready to preach a sermon about this amazing life i have been given by jesus…and that it is available to everyone without prejudice.  i will sing songs about this amazing life i have been given by jesus.  people will treat me well.  not because i deserve it, but because i’m part of a family that has life.  we will go out to eat and bowl and enjoy friendship and celebrate this life.

art won’t.

don’t be uncomfortable because i say it sucks.  be uncomfortable because art doesn’t have life.
