Perspective

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

i preached today on perspective.

there are some sundays when i am my best audience…when the words that are preached probably apply more to me than they do for anyone else.   this was one of those days.

i need a constant reminder to step back from my self-imposed tunnel vision and look at the biggest picture possible.   that’s called perspective.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower;   the righteous run to it and are safe.   Proverbs 18:10 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,  in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.   Ephesians 2:6-7

these verses teach me a valuable lesson.   god is my vantage point.   deep within the safety of my position in christ,  lies perspective.   it is from the edge of the strong tower that i can look out on the mess of the world…the mess of my world… and catch a glimpse of that world with eyes that see things completely…and perfectly.

it is from there that i can see the big picture.

i can see people as they really are,  not as i need them or want them to be.   i can see the hurt in people…their confusion and disappointments.   i can see they are simply people cut out of the same cloth as i am.

i may not see answers to questions,  but i do see the possibilities.   from the tower…from the heavenly realms…the “goliaths” of my life start to look tiny.   even manageable.   perspective allows me to see below the surface.   perspective allows me see things differently…wiser…calmer.

perspective is a gift that comes from belonging to christ.   there are no imitations.   there is no other way.   perspective is the tangible evidence of the presence of the holy spirit in my life.

For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?   But we have the mind of Christ.   1 Corinthians 2:14

peace.   and perspective.
