Monday Morning Quarterback

here are some of my thoughts about yesterday…

1. i’m really starting to wonder if i should just go ahead and preach through the entire book of james…

2. at the rate i’m preaching through it right now, it will probably take us into the fall.  mmm…

3. maybe i could break it up and preach through it at different times during the year.  just thinking.

4. the letter is really beginning to take on new meaning for me.

5. paraphrasing the letter into my own language has been helpful for me to get inside the flow of james’ writing.  i know it is taking some liberty, but it’s been the thing that really helped me see the connection in the letter.

6. i have preached four weeks on the topic of trials and difficulties in our lives.  it doesn’t feel like overkill to me.  i wonder what you think?

7. i loved the connection of the songs to the sermon.  there were words and phrases in the songs that made the words and phrases in the letter even more powerful.

8. we had a lot of hurting people in the building yesterday.

9. we had a lot of loving people in the building yesterday.

10. we can’t run from our pain.  it doesn’t work.

11. we shouldn’t run from people.  it doesn’t work, either.

12. i’ve said it before…i’ll say it again.  it’s an honor to stand next to people in the messiness of their lives.

13. it’s also an honor to have people who will stand next to mine.
