Marriage Tuesday

i read a blog post today that i want to pass on to you.   there’s another guy who is writing once a week about marriage and what he said got me to thinking.

there is no question that men and women are wired different.   many (though not all) men seem to be relationally challenged and struggle with the whole concept of working to make their marriages better.   men,  we really need to help each other!

one of the ways we can undermine the strength of our marriages is in the way we view our wives.   at the risk of  sounding uncomfortably crass,  it needs to be said…your wife is not:

  1. a trophy to be won…

  2. a puzzle to be solved…

  3. a solution to be found…

  4. a prize to be put on display…

  5. a slave to service your needs…

  6. a fixture to be ignored…

  7. a problem to be fixed…

  8. a maid to be paid…

  9. a cause to be championed…

  10. a victim to be rescued…

  11. an object to be talked about…

  12. a joke to be laughed at…

  13. a chef to cook your meals…

  14. a nanny to take care of your kids…

  15. an employee to be bossed around…

  16. a follower so you can be in charge…

  17. a scapegoat for your mistakes…

  18. a weaker person that you can overpower…

  19. an item on your checklist…

are we missing anything?

your wife is  your partner…companion… and friend.

she is to be the one great love of your life…much greater than your kids…and not even in the same ballgame with your job,  your sports teams,  your yard,  your church,  your ministry,  your hobbies,  or your mother.

she is second only to your love of god.

period.

i’m grateful to this blog for giving me some new inspiration to keep marriage as a sacred topic of my blog.
