Going off-road…the weekly4x4

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

1.   last week’s big snow and ice fiasco here in our neck of the woods created a mess at the farracrib.   last weekend,  when the snow/ice began to melt,  it saturated the asphalt shingles over the top of our family room,  and flowed through the plywood decking…down along the beams… and into our room through air ducts,  electrical fixtures,  ceiling joints,  wall seams,  and pooling in multiple places on our ceiling.   beautiful.   the thumbs down? apparently we didn’t see the fine print on our new insurance policy.   we’re not covered.

2.   rough start for our radical discussion groups due to the weather.   disappointing,  but we’re persevering.   this is still going to be great.

3.  wanda and i watched the grammys tonight.   i will be the first one to stand up for the right to free speech and creative expression.   it’s what i love about music.   the musicians that define pop music today are simply amazing.   all styles and genres.   but when katy perry sang  “teenage dream”,  my heart got sick at the thought of how many young girls are defining their value…and how many young boys are defining their relationship with girls…by the words of that song.

4.   really disappointed that so many of our folks were missing today at north point.   i love being part of a church family that doesn’t define it’s worth or purpose by sunday morning church attendance,  but if you missed today…bummer for you.   why? ……

1.   …because logan rocked the house.   what an awesome sermon!

2.   speaking of the sermon,  i lost count of how many times he said god does things that are “stupid”.   bold.   and on top of that,  he said “the freakin’ olympics”.   yeah he did.   and the best?   he said that maybe god is crazier than a sack of squirrels. pure greatness today.

3.   one last unexpected snow day this past wednesday.   the winter weather was too much fun the past couple of weeks…in spite of the water avalanche in my living room.

4.   new folks all over the place at north point these days.   great people.   great days.   don’t miss the opportunity to welcome new friends into your life.   it’s what church is all about.
