(hey, i’ll be in mexico later today, so i thought i’d post some things i’ve been writing lately. we’ll talk about them later!)
we evaluate church by relationships, not by the sermon.
we evaluate church by our willingness to invest in the lives of people, not by the quality of the worship band.
we evaluate church by the depth of our friendships, not by the feeling we get at church events.
we evaluate church by the genuine commitment people have to living out biblical principles in their relationships with each other, not the charisma of a leader or the size of a vision.
we evaluate church by the size of the hearts of the people who call that church “home”, not by the size of the building or the budget.
we evaluate church by the amount of ownership the members of body exhibit, not by the leadership skills of those who are in charge.
we evaluate church by how much its meetings compel us to love and give and serve, not by its reputation in the community.
we evaluate church by how much its people follow the example and lifestyle of jesus, not by its commitment to being politically or socially correct.
we evaluate church by how loud and how clear the call to purity and holiness is, not its willingness to overlook sin.
we evaluate church by the amount of laughter and forgiveness and compassion and understanding and mercy is present…even in times of crisis and tragedy, not the seriousness and smugness that comes from believing it is better than other churches.
come to think of it, we really shouldn’t be spending much time evaluating the church.
maybe a little more self evaluation would be in order, tho…
