Confusion

Writer's picture: Mark RoseMark Rose

There are definitely a lot of issues related to faith and following Jesus that I overlook at this stage in my life journey…things that I would be questioning or taking exception to, if I were wrestling with the existence of God or the uniqueness and divinity of Christ.

like, “why are there so many different kinds of churches and denominations?”

Sheesh. Even the answer that I give to people who are genuinely asking that question, sounds pretty puzzling when I offer the explanation.

Most days, it seems like Christians throughout the ages, including this generation, have conspired to make it as difficult and confusing as possible for honest seekers to touch grace. I think that’s why the older I have gotten, the more I value simplicity…and making the path to the cross as uncluttered and uncomplicated as possible.

I’m sure there might be many who would applaud that goal…and even some who would say they share that value…but I’m convinced it’s easier said than done.

The church is full of clutter and crazy rules and unstated expectations and unexplained traditions and secret language and hierarchy and confusing history and mysterious theology and apparent harsh judgments and boatloads of unanswered questions.

We’ve just got to make this path to faith a little easier for our friends to navigate.
