it’s only been a few weeks since i travelled down to south padre to help with clean up after hurricane dolly left it’s mess down along the south texas coast. i can still remember the smell. i can still remember the path of devastation it left. i can still remember the looks on the some of the faces.
my thoughts right now are with people who are preparing for hurricane gustav. the fear. the frustration. the questions. the confusion. the anger. they’ve all been there before. i know it’s comes with the territory of living where they do, but it’s their home.
as we prepare for worship in the comfort and safety of our little pocket of lewisville this morning, there are hundreds of church families that are displaced this lord’s day…unable able to meet, unable to give, unable to worship with each other…because they have been forced to evacuate.
right now, my prayer is for those churches. i pray that the experience will make them grow stronger…more unified…more dependant on the holy spirit…more aware of their calling…and clearer in their purpose than they have ever been…as they wait to gather again next week.
god help them this morning. and us, too. amen.
