Toys

i’m staring at a corner in my living room where we store all of our grandson’s toys for when he comes to visit. at least most of them are stored there. the rest of them are lying around the house in various places.
my informal count says that we have at least 40-50 different toys for him to play with. i’ve read multiple articles recently that state the average american child has over 250 toys! this makes my head hurt…
yet, without a doubt, boredom is epidemic among young people. ask the average american kid how they are doing most days and i guarantee you they will spit out some version of “i’m bored…”
in spite of all the stuff we surround ourselves with, the sensory overload can still leave us empty.
i wonder if our obsession with entertaining ourselves is the very thing creates spiritual dryness and causes us to whine, “…but i just don’t feel close to god.”
if i may quote from yesterday, we are who we choose to be.
